We are seeking a Cable Engineer to work remotely or hybrid in one of the many office locations around the UK.

The Role - Cable Engineer

You will be joining the technology team that operates across a broad range of projects from single renewable energy installations, onsite generation to multi-GW offshore generation, grid and private projects.

 

Essential Attributes 

  • Power cable system design.
  • Technical due diligence with cable systems.
  • Design, manufacture and installation of onshore and offshore AC and DC cables.
  • Onshore and offshore cable rating and detailed understanding of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards 60287, 60853 and finite element analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of present developments in cable systems, such as CIGRE guidance on site acceptance testing, dynamic cable rating, armour losses and finite element analysis.
  • Writing cable technical specification for works information for an energy project and technically evaluate the cable design within a tender return.
  • Inspection and testing for power cables including a good understanding of standards governing inspection and testing including IEC 62067, 63026, CIGRE, IEEE and other relevant standards.
  • CDM legislation and experience of application to projects in design and construction.
  • Manage projects and present cable design to clients in reports and presentations.

 

Desirable Attributes 

  • CYMCAP (or other industry standard software) 
  • CIGRE or other relevant cable working group 
  • Assisting with business planning and delivering budgets
  • Mentoring junior members of the team
